If it looks like it is time to paint, then it is probably overdue. Weathered wood does not hold paint as long the next time. If it needs painting, then it needs two coats. A brush job on wood will last twice as long as a spray job.
All holes, cracks and pores are filled with the appropriate prep materials and at least two coats of paint are applied, usually brushed on. Brushing, unlike spraying, fills wood pores giving the building a waterproof seal like it has been shrink wrapped or dipped. This is done at the front entrance as well as the chimney top.
Cheap paint ends up being expensive to maintain and visa versa. Peace Painting is commited to a constant quest for the best materials, labor saving tools, safe equipment and clean, efficient work habits.

A trade in itself. Most wood rot occurs at failed caulking joints. Failed or brittle caulking is first removed then replaced with top line caulk such as DAP 230, the industry standard. We also use polyurethane caulk, such as NP1, on expansion joints where, for example, wood meets brick.
One of the secrets to caulking is making sure the caulking completely fills the inside of the gap.
