Q: How long will my paint job last?

A: Generally 5-7 years before a full repaint with one or two touch-ups in between. The sunny side and areas that were more weathered won't last as long. Keep in mind, much of the work initially done by us will not have to be repeated in future repaints, eg. re-sanding, priming and caulking all the trim.

Q: Do you guarantee your work?

A: If we do anything wrong, it is our responsibility to fix it at no charge. I can guarantee our work, but I can't guarantee your wood. Because of what has or has not been done to the surface in years past, it effects the paint-worthiness. And I don't add in any cushion to the price for possible future call backs.

Q: How to you price your work?

A:We work time plus materials. Prep work is the largest and most important part of our typical job. This is also the most difficult item to estimate. Since I only have limited X-ray vision, I want to allow enough time to take care of whatever problems we uncover as we go along, so as to save future maintenance costs. Because no one likes surprises, a 'not to exceed' figure is given, when possible.

Q: Why are your prices typically higher than the average?

A:Because the workers are legally employees, not subcontractors, additional taxes, workers compensation and liability insurance are in place along with some benefits provided to retain quality men. In addition, because the men are employees, qualities such as stability and consistency in work habits and production come naturally because we have been trained. Also, the amount of prep work we do is above the average and this 'invisible' part of the job is often the most difficult to precisely estimate. We would rather estimate on the high side to allow for difficult to detect issues to be dealt with as they are uncovered than to be in a bind to finish properly. We have to be good and fast. But there is more emphasis on the quality necessary to produce the longest lasting job vs. how much money we can try to make or save that day. This is a longer range view that has it's rewards on the back end with less maintenance over time.

Q: Are you, the owner, on the job site?

A: Nearly all day, everyday. Our job is just made up of a thousand details, which when completed, makes a beautiful picture. My 35+ years in the painting industry bring a useful resource to produce a quality finished product. With all the dynamics of any project, this onsite, single source responsibility allows the job to flow more smoothly.
